The 2019 Directed Energy Systems Symposium was held on 18-22 November in La Jolla, California at the
Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines
and at an off-site location.
The DE Systems Symposium focused on systems aspects of DE in a limited-attendance environment.
Portions of the Systems Symposium were conducted at the Secret level, and attendance at all sessions were
limited to U.S. citizens with security clearances, who are employees of the U.S. Government
or its contractors.
Proceedings of the Symposium will be published. See our
Online Store for proceedings of previous Directed Energy Systems Symposia.

Substantial program changes were made to the DE Systems Symposium. These changes were a reaction to the increasing
opportunities to transition Directed Energy Weapon concepts. The opening morning plenary session was replaced by a full
day plenary of system level talks. Following the plenary were two days of presentations
and posters that focus on system level contributions. DEPS encouraged the use of these presentation time slots
to further detail the systems discussed at the plenary.
System focus areas for technical breakout sessions included
- Warfighter Operated Systems
- Technology Development Systems
- Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems
- Industrial Base
- High Energy Laser Source Scaling
- Operational Employment
- Operational Requirements and Mission Level Analysis
- High-power Joint Electromagnetic Non-Kinetic Strike
- Solid State Laser - Technology Maturation
- Non-Lethal Directed Energy Weapon Prototypes - Operational Assessments
This new format was designed to inform interested parties about the general state of this emerging militarily relevant
technology. It also provided our research and development scientists and engineers with a comprehensive view of current
technology needs.
