DIRECTED ENERGY
PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY
Seventh Annual Directed Energy Symposium |
18-21 October 2004 |
Rockville, Maryland | |
|
|
The Seventh Annual Directed Energy
Symposium brought together researchers, managers, and policy makers from government offices,
DoD, DoE, and other national laboratories, program offices, the intelligence community, industry,
universities, and other scientific and engineering institutions for discussions of current programs,
technology efforts, and the future of Directed Energy. This annual Symposium provides a forum for the
exchange of technical information in fields related to the development, testing, and fielding of
High Energy Laser (HEL) and High Power Microwave (HPM) systems.
Best Paper Awards
The Best Paper Award is made annually by the Directed Energy Professional Society (DEPS) at each
Annual Directed Energy Symposium. The Awards are based on technical quality, importance
to the future of Directed Energy, and clarity, as judged by a panel of experts.
The Awards include a plaque and a monetary award, underwritten by Brashear LP, a DEPS sponsor.
The best paper awards for this year are:
Best HEL Paper
William McDermott of University of Denver for his paper "Progress Towards an NCl3 Fueled Iodine
Laser". Coauthors were Robert Coombe, Julanna Gilbert, Zane Lambert, and Mikaila Heldt.
Best Student Paper
Mr. Matthew Lange, a student at Air Force Institute of Technology, for his paper "Electric
Discharge Pumped Oxygen - Iodine Laser Kinetics." Coauthors were Greg Pitz, Brian Smith, and Glen P. Perram.
