Beam Control for Laser Systems is the creation of Dr. Paul Merritt,
a 35 year veteran of laser systems research and development. The material
in this book has been highly influenced by Dr. Merritt’s interaction with
talented engineers at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Hughes and Boeing who
have collectively expended considerable effort in the development of laser beam
control systems over the last few decades. Much of the material has been used in
the classroom for control system courses at the university level. This book contains 9
chapters beginning with a discussion of optical systems performance equations
and concluding with a discussion of control systems theory for adaptive optics
with various control models. It contains both problem sets and an accompanying
CD with relevant MATLAB software. The book is suitable for self-study or as a
