Eye hazard assessment based on target reflection measurements and modeling
This presentation describes results from a combined experimental and analytical effort carried out in conjunction with the Naval Surface Warfare Command (NSWC) under an AFRL Bioeffects Division SBIR Phase II program. The focus of the effort was to assess realistic potential eye hazard ranges to observers of target illumination testing in different engagement and reflection geometries. Lab and field data was collected to validate model predictions made with a mesh model of the target combined with the measured surface BRDFs. The model was then used to compute reflectance distributions for training and operational test scenarios to compute eye hazard distances for aided and non-aided viewing. The resulting eye hazard ranges are presented.
