AIAA/DEPS Systems Integration Committee report 2024
The AIAA Directed Energy Systems Integration Committee, chaired by Dale Parkes (Boeing LEOS), in collaboration with the Directed Energy Professional Society (DEPS), held a series of technical interchange meetings in 2024 focused on promoting airborne high energy laser (HEL) capability and transition. The committee aims to provide a cross-organizational U.S. national forum to discuss, exchange, and generate technical issues to promote integration of a High Energy Laser (HEL) onto airborne platforms. Focus area teams have been established in the areas of: Systems Engineering (to include operations analyses and design); Components (HEL weapon system); Modeling & Simulation (to include aero-effects and supporting modeling); and Test & Evaluation (to include air worthiness). The multi-year objective of the DE Integration Committee is to establish the necessary steps to define the system parameters, go thru the project design process, and document those efforts for a team to demonstrate a laser capability from an airborne platform. In 2024, the committee will present their work at the AIAA Defense Forum and the DEPS Systems Symposium.
