Digital transformation of airborne laser weapon system concept development
We present an approach to incorporating AFRL/RDL activities into a digital business process centered on the minimum necessary fidelity necessary to reach R&D and other organizational objectives. We argue that a two stage approach in which Demonstrator Models, which establish government ownership of developed designs, follow Concept Models, which establish military utility of research, creates enough structure for technology portfolio management across the first two valleys of death without imposing too much modeling overhead.
