The Cost of SWaP-optimized Airborne Laser Weapon Systems: Analysis

We present cost analyses of 10 point designs of airborne laser weapon systems and use nonlinear curve-fitting to create pencil and paper nomographs which can quickly provide interested parties with rough order-of-magnitude total mass, total volume, lifecycle and unit cost estimates for new systems based on system power, aperture size, track range, and jitter. When the lines on these nomographs are low in slope the resulting estimates match higher fidelity SWaP-C models within ~20%. When they are not, the nomographs are still useful for providing confidence intervals to aid in analysis of military utility and rapid concept development.
