Progress in the development and application of high power RF directed energy weapon (DEW) technologies for military missions will be explored in this conference, the sixth in a series of DEPS conferences specifically devoted to high power RF.
Defence Academy campus at Shrivenham
The program of this joint US/UK conference will be organized around six focus areas emphasizing topics of interest to the community:

  • RF DEW Weapon Concepts and Military Utility
  • RF DEW System Engineering and Integration
  • RF DEW Technologies
  • RF DEW Effects and Testing
  • Protection Against RF DEW
  • Overarching Issues (Legal/Policy/Doctrine)

This conference is specifically designed for SECRET US and UK discussions and presentations and participation will be limited to U.S. and U.K. citizens with the proper visit request on file.

Registration fee includes participation in all technical sessions, a copy of the conference proceedings, breakfast, lunch, break refreshments, and the evening reception. Registrants may join DEPS for $50 at the time of registration and receive the member registration fee. All attendees will be required to submit clearance information; details will be posted here soon.

Short course registration includes participation in the classroom activities, student materials, refreshments, and Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits.

Persons requesting cancellation through 16 August will receive a full refund. Cancellations after 16 August are subject to a $100 cancellation fee. There will be no refunds after 6 September.

Location & Accommodations

The technical sessions of the Conference will be held at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, Shrivenham, which lies between Swindon and Oxford, west of London. Travel information can be viewed here.

The conference hotel is the Swindon Marriott located on Pipers Way in Swindon, SN3 1SH United Kingdom. A block of hotel rooms at reduced rates have been set aside at this hotel for Conference attendees. Contact the hotel at +44 1793 512 121 (phone) +44 1793 513 114 (fax) and request the reduced rate. You may also use the online reservations system to receive the reduced rate. Please make your reservations early; the block of rooms is first come, first served and will expire 3 weeks prior to the conference.

Bus transportation will be provided between the hotel and the technical sessions. Driving personal vehicles to the technical sessions is strongly discouraged, due to access delays and very limited space for parking.

Call for Papers

Note: Abstract due date has been extended to 30 April 2010.

Contributions are solicited for presentation at the conference from all areas relevant to RF DEW. The Conference Program Committee will select contributions for inclusion of the technical program based on submitted abstracts. Among areas of special interest are: counter-electronics, counter-IED, engine stopping, and non-lethal counter-personnel. Contributions on other high power RF DEW topics of mutual interest to the US and UK are also sought and will be considered for presentation. Please see the Overview above for the list of conference focus areas.

Abstract Submissions

Authors must seek permission from their respective organization to release their work to the UK/US Community prior to submitting their Abstract. Abstracts must be UNCLASSIFIED, written in the format described below, and received no later than 30 April 2010. Abstracts must include the following information:

  • Title
  • Author's organizational affiliation
  • Author's postal and e-mail addresses
  • Oral presentation or poster session preference
  • Short synopsis of paper (500 words or less)
  • Expected classification of the contribution(s) (Unclassified Public Release, Unclassified Limited Distribution C, or Secret)
  • Appropriate Symposium Focus Session/s.

Abstracts should be submitted as electronic files (Microsoft Word or PDF) using the following naming convention: last-name-of-first-author_abstract_2010. For more than one submission, insert #n after the last name of the first author, where n is a sequential number.

Authors will be informed by 21 May 2010 if their contributions are selected for inclusion in the Conference Program.
